Corfu

10.19.2024 || Corfu || Greece

After a day in Kotor, Montenegro, we set sail for Corfu, Greece. This was the first of three stops in Greece on our Viking Cruise. We had a great view of the new fortress (on the right) and old fortress (on the left).

Like other stops on the Viking cruise, we started the day with a tour. We took a bus ride down to a lookout point near the airport runway. Reminded me of Gravelly Point near National Airport in Washington, D.C. but with an arguably better view.

The bus then took us on a scenic ride near the Old Fortress.

We got off the bus and proceeded on a walking tour.

After the tour we went to Starenio Bakery for coffee and a morning snack. You know I got the spinach and feta pie. At this point, I can rank them. Split had the best spinach pie. Then Corfu. Followed by Dubrovnik.

We walked around and checked out some shops in search of souvenirs.

We checked out the New Fortress and enjoyed the views. We spotted the ship!

Next we went to the Old Fortress and some of the nearby gardens along the water.

Before heading back to the ship, we went to Europe Cafe. It was a great spot for spritzes while people watching. Any of these places will do for people watching. Europe Cafe happened to have an open table.

Time to head back to the ship! There were a lot of similarities in Corfu to the prior stops in Split, Dubrovnik, and Kotor. There were forts with walls and spinach pies. The tourist area is also where the locals work, shop, and eat. It felt like we experienced some of the day-to-day island life.

Next stop: Katakolon (Olympia), Greece

Check out the rest of our Viking cruise adventures! Here is what we did at the other stops: Venice, Split, Dubrovnik, Kotor, and Athens.

Question: Have you been to Corfu? Or did you skip it and head to a more popular Greek Island?
