Savannah is an awesome place to visit for quite a few reasons, some of my favorite things about Savanah are: the mossy squares and cemeteries, walking around the Historic District, walking along the river where you will see the fourth busiest seaport in the US in action, and great Southern food (e.g. pimento cheese at every meal? Yes, please). I started this blog five years after we first visited Savannah in June of 2012 so this was a great time to go back to a city that we enjoyed visiting and document what we did.

We flew from Washington Dulles airport to Savannah, GA over Columbus Day weekend (October 8th-11th, 2021) to visit my Aunt in Bluffton, SC. We spent two nights in Bluffton and one night in Savannah at the end of the trip before heading home. We covered a lot of the main tourist attractions when we first visited in 2012 so with a little less than 24 hours in Savannah we opted for walking around the historic district and lounging at our hotel.

Where to Stay:

With less than 24 hours in Savannah, we selected the Perry Lane hotel because it had great dining options and it was centrally located in the Historic District making it an easy walk to the mossy squares and down to the riverfront. Perry Lane was a great experience from the welcome glass of bubbly (it was Cava) in the lobby during check in to the upgraded corner room with a view from booking our stay through Elizabeth @souvenirandfar.

Where to Grab Drinks:

Peregrin is a rooftop bar located at the Perry Lane hotel and offers a fantastic view of Savannah while you wait for your room to be available, or really any time throughout the day

The Wayward Bar is located on the ground level at the Perry Lane hotel offers guests a free cocktail of the day from 5-5:30 pm that is the bartender’s choice. There really aren’t many reasons to leave the Perry Lane hotel.

Where to Eat:

The Emporium Kitchen and Wine Market located at the Perry Lane hotel is a great place to eat breakfast and dinner especially if you receive a food credit to use during your stay
I really wanted to eat dinner at The Grey, a restored Greyhound Bus station but it is super popular at the moment so I wasn’t able to get a reservation.

Things to Do:

We spent most of our time in Savannah in October 2021 walking around the historic district, exploring the squares

Check out Forsyth Park, a 30-acre park in the historic district with a beautiful fountain

Walk along the river (first two photos were taken in 2012, the second two photos were taken in 2021)

Recommendations from a prior trip in June 2012

Wormsloe Plantation – a 15-minute drive from the historic district takes you to a beautiful estate with trails to explore. I do not recommend wearing sandals (bottom right photo) but it is doable.
