Afton (Charlottesville Area)

9.17.2020 – 9.18.2020 || Afton| Virginia

After three nights at the Greenbrier in West Virginia we were off to a vineyard in the Charlottesville, VA area. We attended a wedding at Veritas Vineyard & Winery over ten years ago and I have also been there for a wine tasting with girlfriends and remember it being a wonderful experience for the food, wine, and mountain views.

Where we stayed:

The Farmhouse on the vineyard property has been turned into an eight room bed and breakfast and has been welcoming guests since 2012. We stayed in the Cornwall room, located on the second floor with views of the vineyard, the barn, and the horse field.

We arrived mid-afternoon and had a wonderful experience tasting Veritas wines on the wrap around porch as we took in the views. An overnight stay includes wine hour, a champagne breakfast in the garden, and a complimentary bottle of wine and two glasses.

Where we ate:

  • The Farmhouse at Veritas Restaurant – There is also a restaurant at the Farmhouse so we made a dinner reservation, which starts with a champagne toast at 6:30 pm and is followed by a four course, wine paired meal at 7 pm.
  • Breakfast at the Farmhouse at Veritas Restaurant is included in an overnight stay and is served in the garden. It consists of a two course meal that starts with champagne and orange juice, a croissant and fresh fruit, and then your choice of a sweet or savory option. We went savory.
  • Three Notch’d Brewing Company in Charlottesville – While this blog is all about champagne, this brewery has wine and prosecco on tap and offers craft beer and a locally sourced menu in downtown Charlottesville. We stopped there for lunch on the way to Veritas.

What we did:

An overnight stay at a vineyard means a sunrise walk among the grapes. Breakfast wasn’t served until 9 am so we got up and walked around the property. It was a peaceful walk with incredible scenery.

This might be my new favorite place for an overnight getaway that is two and a half hours away from the DC area.

Question: Do you have a favorite vineyard in Virginia wine country?
