Prague, Budapest, and Krakow: Two Repeats and a New Destination

I first visited Prague, Czech Republic and Budapest, Hungary 24 years ago on a trip through 15 European countries in 42 days. I wanted to see what had changed. Spoiler, there were many more vegetarian options than I remembered, along with a champagne bar in Prague! Adding Krakow, Poland as a new destination made the nostalgic trip feel fresh. Since I had never been to Poland before, I was eager to try pierogies and shop for pottery. This trip also marks my 46th country visited.

We planned an eight-night trip: three nights in Prague, two nights in Budapest, and three nights in Krakow. Here are some highlights before you head to my detailed pages to check out what we did in each city.

Prague, Czech Republic felt like a fairytale. We enjoyed its excellent beer and sights like the ancient Prague Castle, Charles Bridge, and large squares.

Budapest, Hungary is a mix of grandeur and grit. It felt way bigger than Prague, especially with the Danube River cutting right through it. On one side, you’ve got the historic vibe of Buda and its castle, while the other side is all about the energy of Pest with the Hungarian Parliament Building and quirky Ruin Bars.

Krakow, Poland has one of Europe’s largest market squares, a hilltop castle, and a lot of local flavor for foodies. Krakow is also the gateway to learning more about the history of Schindler’s Factory and nearby Auschwitz-Birkenau.
