Katakolon (Olympia)

10.20.2024 || Katakolon (Olympia) || Greece

This was our second of three stops in Greece on our Viking cruise. After spending a day in Corfu we were preparing for a day in Olympia, home of the original Olympic Games! We docked in Katakolon.

Katakolon is a small seaside town with easy access to the birthplace of the modern-day Olympic Games.

We took a bus to Olympia. We toured the archaeological site with a guide.

You really had to use your imagination to picture this being the former site of the Olympic games.

Hope my track demonstration helps you visualize the 100 meter dash.

A few more photo ops and we were ready to go.

We bought Greek olive oil and souvenirs before heading back to the ship.

Next stop: Athens!

Check out the rest of our Viking cruise adventures! Here is what we did at the other stops: Venice, Split, Dubrovnik, Kotor, and Corfu.

Question: What is your favorite Olympic event (winter or summer)? I prefer the summer games. As a former collegiate swimmer I am going to say swimming! I also enjoy track & field, gymnastics, and table tennis.
