Kotor

10.18.2024 || Kotor || Montenegro

After spending the day in Dubrovnik, we set sail for Kotor, Montenegro. Kotor is at the end of a 17-mile inlet that links to the Adriatic Sea. This was our favorite port by far because of the arrival and departure route. We arrived shortly after sunrise on a foggy morning.

The cruise port is located in the Bay of Kotor at the foothills of the limestone cliffs of Mt. Lovcen.

We signed up for a walking tour to get a feel for the old town and learn about its history.

We entered the walled city through the Sea Gate. This was near the clock tower and the Square of the Arms. We kept circling back to these landmarks as we explored the narrow streets.

Here are some of my favorite photos from the walk. The bottom left is the cathedral where we took cover from the rain.

We also visited the maritime museum. When the tour ended we took a walk along part of the city wall. There were cats everywhere. They are said to be protectors of the city and its people.

We went back to the ship for lunch. After lunch we entered the city through the Gurdic Gate this time. We walked the remaining part of the wall before heading back to the ship.

Late afternoon we set sail for the next destination, Corfu, Greece. We enjoyed the views from our balcony on the way out of Kotor Bay.

Next stop: Corfu, Greece

Check out the rest of our Viking cruise adventures! Here is what we did at the other stops: Venice, Split, Dubrovnik, Katakolon (Olympia), and Athens.

Question: It was raining most of the day. We missed out on the incline ride to the top of the mountain. We also opted out of the steep climb to the top. Did you do either of these? What other recommendations do you have for Kotor?
