Turks and Caicos Islands: A Tropical Paradise for a Birthday Getaway

We are back from three incredibly relaxing days in Turks and Caicos Islands (TCI) where I celebrated my birthday! We tend to gravitate towards cities (e.g. Barcelona, Montreal, Rome) when planning a vacation but shorter trips to warmer climates have been working out for us the last couple of years (e.g. Palm Springs, Puerto Rico, Sonoma). I was looking for a tropical getaway that also had great dining options. Quite a few people have recommended Turks and Caicos, and I loved the direct flight from Washington, D.C. that gets you there in about three hours.

We started the trip off at the Capital One lounge at Dulles airport where we sampled nearly all of the things on the buffet for lunch.

We have been repeat visitors to Bermuda to visit my champagne drinking partner in crime but have not explored many other islands. We didn’t know much about Turks and Caicos and took the opportunity to learn a few facts. Did you know that Turks and Caicos is comprised of 40 different islands and only 8 of them are inhabited? We stayed on Providenciales, or “Provo”, where most tourists go for the pristine beaches, shopping, and restaurants. Turks and Caicos is a British territory so you need a passport, but they accept the U.S. dollar.

There are many great hotel options in Providenciales. We stayed at The Shore Club in Long Beach Bay. It is a smaller beach compared to Grace Bay and not as concentrated with tourists. The open air lobby, pictured below is my favorite part of the property.

When we plan to spend nearly all of our time at the hotel, I like to pick a place based on the amenities, dining options, etc. The Shore Club checked those boxes and we spent most of our time at the beautiful main pool and beach area.

The dining in Turks and Caicos was great! We didn’t have nearly enough time to fully explore the dining scene in Providenciales but the ones we chose did not disappoint. Heading to dinner at Coco Bistro (left), Marine Room (middle), and The Shore Club’s Sui-Ren (right).

A few days in paradise was the perfect way to recharge and celebrate by birthday in paradise. I would love to return one day to continue exploring more of Providenciales and perhaps some of the other inhabited islands. Head on over to my full post for the full recap of our time in Tucks and Caicos.
