We booked a three-night trip to Puerto Rico to celebrate our 12th wedding anniversary (and 19 years total if you are counting). I knew very few things about Puerto Rico at the time of booking – there was a direct flight from the DC area, I didn’t need my passport, there was a newly owned and renovated Fairmont property, my cousin went there recently and had a great time, the piña colada was invented there, and so on. We barely scratched the surface of things to do in Puerto Rico and hope to go back to explore additional areas outside of San Juan.
Here are my top three highlights from our long weekend in Puerto Rico:
Staying at the iconic El San Juan Hotel. It is a great location whether it is your first time on the island, or you are just visiting for a long weekend like we did.

Sipping Puerto Rico’s signature drink, a piña colada, at the beach.

Exploring the streets of Old San Juan.

Head on over to my full post to read more about our vacation in the San Juan area to see where we ate and what else we did while staying at the El San Juan Hotel.
Question: For those of us who track the number of continents, countries, and states that you have visited, this is a question for you. With Puerto Rico being a US territory, how do you account for Puerto Rico on your country/state tracker?
