We have a friend who lives in Brussels and he likes to ski. He will travel just about anywhere in Europe to do so. Despite never skiing before in my life, he’s been sending us postcards from various ski resorts for the last couple of years so we finally pulled the trigger over the Christmas holidays and booked a ski trip to Austria that just so happened to start and end in Munich, Germany.
I’ve been to Munich twice in the early to mid-2000s but I was looking forward to returning to a city that has much more to offer than beer and pretzels. We only had 48 hours to explore before setting off for the Austrian Alps but that is plenty of time to get a feel for Munich, snow and all!
Highlights from Munich:
Arriving in Marienplatz just in time for the 11 a.m. Rathaus-Glockenspiel show.
Dinner at the Augustiner Keller.
Prosecco at Hofbräukeller.
Marveling at the winter wonderland scene at Nymphenburg Palace.
Walking around the Nymphenburg Palace grounds.
Watching the river surfers at Eisbachwelle.
Walking to Schloss Neuschwanstein despite not being able to secure tickets.
